Biography: Dr. Jim Galbraith is an emergency physician, educator, and public health researcher with a career focus on integrating public health interventions into emergency care. He has led pioneering efforts in emergency department-based HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening, influencing national screening recommendations and advancing harm reduction strategies for persons who inject drugs. As Vice Chair of Research for the UMMC Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Galbraith oversees a diverse portfolio of federally and industry-funded clinical trials in infectious diseases, sepsis, and trauma. His work emphasizes bridging the gap between clinical care, public health, and academic scholarship to improve outcomes for vulnerable populations. Dr. Galbraith is passionate about mentoring future clinicians and researchers and continues to expand educational initiatives that prepare trainees to lead in both emergency medicine and public health.
