Biography: DR. DOUGLAS P. CALVIN
Dr. Douglas Paul Calvin, who successfully completed a hospice and palliative care medicine fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio in 7/2022, has joined the University of Mississippi Medical Center faculty as an Instructor in the Department of Radiation Oncology in the School of Medicine.

Dr. Calvin, who has a Master of Science in Nuclear Science (Medical Physics Option), earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1990 as a U.S. Navy Health Professions Scholar. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA, during Desert Storm and Desert Shield. A former U.S. Navy flight surgeon, Dr. Calvin received an honorable discharge from the USNR as a LCDR in 2003.

He completed his residency training in radiation oncology at the University of Chicago Medical Center and completed elective externships with the Brachytherapy Service, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, and with the Head and Neck Oncology Service at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. He was awarded both the ASTRO Basic Science and NIH/NCI T-25 Research fellowships. He conducted bench-side and translational research at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute as an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL until 2004.

Dr. Calvin has served as the Medical Director of the Radiation Oncology Program at the Lakeland Regional Cancer Center in Lakeland, FL, and was that institution's RTOG/NRG PI and Chairperson of the ACoS Committee on Cancer. He served as the Medical Director, Radiation Oncology Services, for the Florida Institute of Research, Medicine and Surgery in Orlando, FL and most recently as the Medical Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology, Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, MI.

As an independent contract radiation oncologist, he served on the staff of the Kimelman Cancer Institute, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, USVI and at the Mayo Clinic-affiliated American Hospital, Dubai, UAE. He was the founding radiation oncologist of the Health First Cancer Institute's radiation oncology program in Titusville, FL.

Dr. Calvin has authored, co-authored over 25 peer-reviewed scientific abstracts and publications, and presented at national and international meetings. His research has been published in such journals as Cancer Research; the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics; Medical Physics; Seminars in Radiation Oncology and the American Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Among his awards are the ACS Institutional Research Grant, election to the honorary Sigma Xi Research Society and recognition as a Castle-Connolly Top Doctor in America for 2019 - present.

Dr. Calvin is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Radiology and a member of several state, national and international professional organizations, including ASTRO, ASCO, ACRO and the ACR.
