Biography: Tanya Calhoun is a nurse practitioner who has been working in UMMC Centers for Telehealth as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner since 2020. She began her medical career in 2013, when she graduated from Alcorn State University with a Masters’ of Science in Nursing with a FNP concentration and a Post-Masters’ of Science in Nursing with a PMHNP concentration in 2018 from University of Southern Mississippi. Followed by completing her Doctor of Nursing degree in 2021 from University of South Alabama. She is board certified by ANCC as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and by AANP as a family nurse practitioner. Prior to obtaining her MSN-PMHNP, she worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner in different settings such as home care, hospice, telehealth, and outpatient settings. She has experience working with children, adolescent, and geriatric patients. During her career as a PMHNP, she has gained experience including but not limited to managing Mood Disorders, Schizophrenia, Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, substance abuse and recovery in all age groups. She is currently a member of American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Mississippi Association of Nurse Practitioners, Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing Society, and University of South Alabama’s Zeta Gamma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
