Biography: Dr. Allison Barrett was born and raised in Atlanta, GA and is a graduate of The Westminster Schools. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Davidson College and obtained her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. She completed an Emergency Medicine residency at The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson, MS in 2014.
Dr. Barrett has had ten years of experience in Emergency Medicine at UMMC and has a special interest in medical student education. She serves an Assistant Clerkship Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine, is a faculty advisor for the School of Medicine’s Emergency Medicine Interest Group, and a faculty mentor for the School of Medicine's second-year course ‘Introduction to Clinical Medicine.’ She received the "Excellence in Medical Student Education Award" from the Department of Emergency Medicine in both 2016 and 2017 and a "Trailblazer in Education" award from the School of Medicine in 2019.
In addition to her clinical and educational roles, Dr. Barrett serves on UMMC’s School of Medicine Admissions Committee, the Emergency Medicine Education Committee, the Emergency Residency Interview & Selection Committee, the Emergency Medicine Program Evaluation Committee, and the Emergency Medicine Faculty Interview & Selection Committee.
Dr. Barrett is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and Council of Residency Directors (CORD). She has made contributions to the Medical Student Advising Task force for the national group Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine (CDEM).
Dr. Barrett resides in Jackson, MS with her husband Dr. Austin Barrett of Mississippi Sports Medicine and their two children. Dr. Barrett enjoys playing tennis and pickleball, listening to live music, cooking and traveling in her spare time.
