Biography: Suwarna Anand is a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist who pursued her residency and fellowship from one of the most prestigious universities in the United States. She is not only proficient in providing anesthesia for open heart, thoracic, major complex vascular and organ transplant surgeries but is also a board certified Transesophageal Echocardiographer. She renders her TEE skills to help guide many new and upcoming percutaneous interventional cardiology procedures like occlusion of interatrial septal defect, left atrial appendage occlusion device, transcatheter mitral and aortic valve procedures. She was one of the first 3 anesthesiologists at UMMC who helped establish the successful Liver transplant program. Her passion for education has led her to practice in an academic institution where she enjoys being actively involved in the training and mentoring of residents and fellows and has been honored with multiple teacher of the year awards. She is spearheading the perioperative glycemic control program at UMMC. She is a member of the Credentialing Committee for the staff at UMMC. She is the Program director of the Cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship, member of the Program evaluation committee for the same fellowship and a member of the CCC for the Core Anesthesiology residency program.
