Description:

This course will cover a few of the most common systemic diseases that are seen in the elderly population and how these diseases influence the dental management that we can provide for this segment of our population. Among the systemic diseases addressed will be hypertension, ischemic heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Course Objectives:

Briefly describe some of the possible physiological effects these systemic diseases have on the elderly individual
Identify common drugs used to treat these systemic diseases and their common side effects
Discuss dental management of elderly patients with these common systemic conditions

Speaker

James Lott, DMD

Dr. James Lott received his undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi in 1996; he then received his DMD from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2004. He completed a GPR residency at UMMC in 2005, and joined on as faculty in CPRS that same year. He is a fellow of both the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Academy of Oral Medicine, achieving these in 2011 and 2013 respectively. He is a member of several dental organizations and had served on many committees locally and nationally within these organizations.
