As we reflect on another vibrant semester at the John D. Bower School of Population Health, I am proud to share this edition of our school newsletter – a snapshot of the exciting work, people and progress that define our community.

The 2025 Honors and Awards Ceremony and Graduation Reception celebrates academic achievement, service and research excellence across its programs.

The John D. Bower School of Population Health hosted its third annual Research Day on May 14, 2025, celebrating the outstanding research contributions of its students and faculty.

Dr. Veronica Gillispie-Bell, a renowned expert in maternal health equity, presented the 2025 Distinguished Population Health Lectureship.

The Department of Preventive Medicine at the John D. Bower School of Population Health honored the exceptional achievements of its graduating residents in a ceremony led by Program Director Dr. Brian Williams.

Honoring a legacy of advocacy and excellence, the L.C. Dorsey Research Honor Society, a cornerstone of the Jackson Heart Study Graduate Training and Education Center (GTEC) at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, welcomed eight new members during its 2025 recognition ceremony.

The Jackson Heart Study Graduate Training and Education Center at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC-GTEC) celebrated the graduation of Cohort 6 of the Robert Smith, MD, Scholars Program, marking another milestone in its mission to train the next generation of cardiovascular and health disparities researchers.
