Century Club Charities donated $1 million to Friends of Children’s Hospital, marking the 10th year its donation to benefit Children’s of Mississippi has been $1 million or more. The announcement was made Tuesday at the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower, the expansion that Century Club’s donations helped build.

Researchers received 51 funded grants and awards during the first quarter of the fiscal year, with some garnering multiple funded projects.

Although it remains a small, select “community of educators,” it almost doubled in size last week during a ceremony appropriately staged in a Medical Center building named for a UMMC legend known as a master teacher and champion of students. The same can be said of those inducted into an academy dedicated to nurturing great teaching.

The holidays are a time when families escaping a cold winter’s night with warmth for body and soul. But, sometimes, it’s the perfect combination of factors that can lead to a trip to the hospital without a quick revisit to some fire safety basics.
