The Class of 2023 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is beginning the next leg of the health care journey, translating hard work, sacrifice and determination into health sciences careers.

Parents, friends and other family members gathered at the Mississippi Coliseum on May 26 to cheer on the special students in their lives who make up the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Class of 2023. About 740 of the 911 graduates walked across the stage to accept their diplomas.

A year after its debut, an ambitious training program through the Mississippi Center for Emergency Services has taken the state by storm and attracted national media attention. It’s called STORK, and it teaches rural first responders and ER staff how to recognize pregnant moms having crisis deliveries and stabilize them – and by doing that, save their newborns.

During the third quarter of the academic year, UMMC researchers were awarded over $20 million in sponsored programs funding from federal, state, external university, private foundation and industry sponsors.

Medical Center faculty and staff often are recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for their academic or medical achievements. These accolades place UMMC among health science centers worldwide.
