It could have been an 18-wheeler jumping the I-55 median near the Madison exit, hitting a charter bus and sending dozens to area hospitals. Any mass casualty event, no matter the circumstances, requires UMMC’s emergency medicine and communications staff to be the first ones on their toes. An exercise led by the Center for Emergency Services last Friday tested the Medical Center’s readiness, helping staff identify strong and weak points.

As the new Division of Continuing Health Professional Education director, Vickie Skinner is guiding her team to streamline and grow the continuing education program at UMMC. She is using her experience as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves to bring about "A Healthier Mississippi."
