Honoring Our Workforce for Labor Day

All of us, for all of Mississippi. That phrase summarizes the sentiments expressed in the "All for Your Health" marketing campaign video, but they’re so much more than words.

Stepping up and standing together, each of you works to improve the health of Mississippians in countless ways. You provide the best health care for not just the Jackson metro area but the entire state. You explore new treatments and add to the body of medical research through scientific discovery, and you educate Mississippi’s future health professionals and scientists.

An academic medical center is more than buildings, hospital beds and equipment. UMMC runs on its workforce, diverse in backgrounds and duties but unified in a common goal: to improve the lives of Mississippians.

The Medical Center has 10,000 employees, each dedicated to serving our fellow citizens. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, through holidays, weekends, ice storms, heatwaves and pandemics, you are on the job.

UMMC’s most precious resource is our employees, and each is essential to our mission. When you look back over the past several years and see the achievements that have been made, you have been an integral part of that success. Your dedication, hard work and invaluable contributions make our bold vision for the future a reality.

We were recently named among the top 10 places to work in Mississippi by Forbes magazine, and much of that accolade reflects the people who work at UMMC. Throughout our organization, our team members are there for one another, pulling together to get the job done.

It is an honor to call you my colleagues, and as Labor Day approaches, I want to thank each of you for the work you do.

All of us, for all of Mississippi, is how we work every day at UMMC, and that’s what it takes to build A Healthier Mississippi.

Signed, Lou Ann Woodward, M.D.
