For many Jackson-area families, three meals a day aren’t a given, and help with groceries is appreciated. UMMC’s EversCare does just that on the first Wednesday of each month. On April 21, the tote bag of edibles given to all comers came with something extra: the offer of a free COVID-19 shot.
Dr. Kenneth Bennett, who presented the annual address known as the Last Lecture on April 21, became a doctor almost 60 years ago, but his ideas about how to treat patients began taking shape much earlier, in the company of his father. For him, they are expressed in a painting created more than 70 years before he was born.

Grabbing reading glasses is a solution for some people, but Dr. Roya Attar, UMMC optometrist, offers another route: fitting a patient with contacts to achieve monovision, or blended vision, to lessen the effects of presbyopia, or loss of “near” vision.
