Dr. Kenneth Bennett, who presented the annual address known as the Last Lecture on April 21, became a doctor almost 60 years ago, but his ideas about how to treat patients began taking shape much earlier, in the company of his father. For him, they are expressed in a painting created more than 70 years before he was born.

As you grow older, it becomes more difficult to focus on objects close to you. Grabbing reading glasses is a solution for some people, but Dr. Roya Attar, UMMC optometrist, offers another route: fitting a patient with contacts to achieve monovision, or blended vision, to lessen the effects of presbyopia, or loss of “near” vision.
