When their medical coverage doesn't include dental treatment, military veterans can go years without seeing a dentist. During Dental Mission Week, students and faculty in the School of Dentistry and other schools at UMMC stepped up to give back to Mississippi's veterans by taking care of their teeth.

Mississippians 65 or older and those with certain underlying medical conditions seeking the COVID-19 vaccine received a virtual shot in the arm, thanks to UMMC's Division of Information Systems. Proprietary software developed by DIS in conjunction with Microsoft allows citizens to schedule an appointment at any of 22 MSDH vaccination sites statewide.

Any sustained sounds greater than 85 decibels – from barking dogs and alarm clocks to lawn mowers and jet engines – can lead to hearing loss. Hearing protection should be fundamental for those who enjoy hunting, monster truck rallies and death metal concerts, among other relatively noisy pursuits. But how can they get the most out of their hobbies when the sounds around them are diminished by these devices?
