Sybil Cumberland of Preston, 7, a Children’s of Mississippi Children’s Heart Center patient, will represent more than 180,000 children who see UMMC specialists for pediatric care each year. She and her family have been strong supporters of the state’s only children’s hospital, leading toy drives and broadcasting their story during the Mississippi Miracles Radiothon.

We all know that blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, body mass index and other measures of well-being should be kept within certain limits. But there is wiggle room. As two Medical Center experts explain, some medical test numbers can, and should, be adjusted when it comes to patients as they age, as well as for those who face certain health risks.
