To cope with what could be an impressive outbreak of the flu, Medical Center teams in infection prevention, emergency services and other departments are taking up arms – literally – with vaccinations. They are also launching a colorful information campaign plastered on hospital and clinic walls. But many of their preparations are taking place behind the scenes.

The seven-story expansion of the state’s only children’s hospital will include a dozen new state-of-the-art surgical suites to accommodate advances in technology and the number of pediatric experts who will be on hand for procedures. Surgical professionals toured the site this week to see the space that, in about a year, will be home to Children’s of Mississippi surgical care.
