Perhaps no others have brought more renown to the Medical Center than the two contemporaries who were honored this week at the Old Capitol Museum in Jackson. One was a pioneer in organ transplantation; the other a physiologist whose findings on the way the human body works were revolutionary.

University of Mississippi basketball players in holiday garb visited Batson Children’s Hospital patients last Tuesday, while Santa Claus rode into the hospital on a Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks airboat last Wednesday. Both holiday visits wowed patients and brightened their holiday season.

Health care institutions collect and use patient data to improve their quality of care and drive research. With more than 24 million patient encounters during six years, it’s a big undertaking – and responsibility - at the Medical Center.

A pair of School of Health Related Professions faculty members are selected to represent the Medical Center at a higher education academic excellence event sponsored by the Mississippi Association of Colleges and Universities, while the Patient Quality and Safety Group recognizes a transplant nurse coordinator for catching a potential tissue typing error.
