For the third time since 2014, a UMMC faculty member has been selected to represent the University of Mississippi as its Southeastern Conference Faculty Achievement Award winner. Dr. Jane Reckelhoff, professor and chair of cell and molecular biology, is now the institution’s nominee for the SEC Professor of the Year award, which will be announced next month.
Every day, patients arrive at UMMC whose first language isn’t English. Unless there’s someone to interpret for them, communication between them and their caregivers can be spotty or so limited that there’s a risk of adverse events. A new video interpretation program is bridging that divide, offering real-time translation services for patients in the hospitals and clinics.
A bright red “Lightning McQueen” and a Dodge pick-up have revved up patient care in Batson Children’s Hospital surgical care and in UMMC’s Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. The kid-sized cars, donated by Walmart and Sam’s Club, allow patients to drive themselves to the operating room, reducing the need for sedation, and cruise the hospital hallways, accelerating morale.
Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following addition to its faculty and leadership staff.
