Since the passage of the Health Care Collaboration Act of 2017 gave the Medical Center more flexibility in its clinical procurement processes, UMMC is projected to save more than $2.6 million in Fiscal Year 2018. These savings come at a critical time for the institution.

In his new book Desperate Surgery in the Pacific War: Doctors and Damage Control for American Wounded, 1941-45, Dr. Thomas Helling pays tribute to the brave physicians who, in the worst of circumstances, saved lives of soldiers who suffered unimaginable traumatic injuries. Helling gives voice to the true stories of courage and resourcefulness that need to be told.
