Established in 2000, UMMC’s Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing program became the first GIS and Remote Sensing program on an academic medical center in the nation. UMMC has taken a leadership role in promoting GIS and Remote Sensing in the health science applications beyond the campus.

This program started with the same mission of UMMC - teaching, research and service. Three graduate courses are offered by a staff member of this program. So far, this program has brought more than $3 million extramural funds. Basic mapping services are available for all UMMC departments through this program.
