UMMC SON Evidence-Based Practice and Research Team: A Joanna Briggs Institute Affiliate Group

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) School of Nursing Evidence-Based Practice and Research Team, an Evidence Synthesis Group (ESG) of the Joanna Briggs Institute, University of Adelaide, Australia, is located within the UMMC School of Nursing. The ESG promotes the mission of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and engages both academic and practice associates in evidence generation, synthesis, transfer and utilization. The ESG is affiliated with the Texas Christian University Center for Evidence-Based Practice and Research.

The UMMC ESG began these national and international partnerships in 2015 to provide access to robust, evidence-based practice and research tools for faculty, students and community partners. The UMMC ESG provides an opportunity for vibrant, collaborative learning and research by faculty and students through interaction with real world, health-care practice problems.

The School of Nursing is affiliated with more than 200 hospitals, community-health centers, health departments, mental-health facilities, private-practice clinics, community clinics and schools, offering students extensive opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration in clinical practice and research. All educational programs offered at the UMMC School of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

The UMMC ESG contributes to the production of valid Systematic Reviews through its faculty scholars and DNP students, as well as scholars in the practice community. The existing relationships with our practice partners build awareness of the Joanna Briggs products and services within the UMMC ESG's community of interest. An established history of online graduate program offerings expands the potential reach of the UMMC ESG beyond geographic boundaries.

The UMMC ESG also collaborates with our clinical partners through an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Fellowship that brings together nurses from various practice sites to learn technique to infuse evidence-based practice into their own settings. During the Fellowship, each EBP Fellow selects a project designed to solve a clinical problem or question in his or her institution. This Fellowship furthers the work of the UMMC ESG by facilitating evidence-based practice and research in the practice setting.
