As program director of the plastic surgery residency programs and chief of the Plastic and Hand Surgery Division at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, I would like to thank you for your interest in our programs. Click here for detailed information regarding the application process.
Our independent program is a three-year training program fully approved for two residents per year, six total. Our integrated program matches one qualified resident per year directly from medical school into a six-year plastic surgery training program. These programs involve the University Hospitals and Clinics and G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center as well as several private practices.
Our full-time faculty consists of five plastic surgeons, two PhDs, one instructor in microsurgery and part-time faculty. These programs have strong emphasis on microsurgery and congenital deformities, including craniofacial anomalies. There is also a large volume of craniofacial and hand trauma. Our hand fellowship is shared with orthopedic surgery, while all replantations are carried out by plastic surgery.
There is a strong commitment to basic and clinical research. Areas of interest include free radical pathophysiology, wound healing, flap physiology and peripheral nerve pathophysiology. The division has an established lab headed by two full-time PhDs. Residents have won several national plastic surgery research awards.
On behalf of all faculty, we are proud of our current residents, recent graduates and our programs, and we look forward to meeting each of you.
