It is my pleasure to welcome you to UMMC and especially to the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery in the Department of Surgery.
The vascular surgery fellowship is an ACGME-approved two-year clinical residency program consisting of training opportunities at both University of Mississippi Medical Center and the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery VA Hospital. The Vascular Surgery Fellowship is divided equally between both basic science and clinical research in addition to clinical responsibilities.
I believe that you will find challenging pathology in perhaps the most ill patients that you will encounter. It is our goal to see that our fellows are equipped to both treat the vascular diseases of these patients and to evaluate and prepare them for definitive management. I encourage cooperation and mutual respect for the faculty on the vascular surgery team as well as all physicians and other healthcare personnel outside of our division. We are a close-knit group and I believe that you will always be able to find someone to help you solve any problem that may arise.
The goal of Vascular Surgery is to supply circulation, either venous or arterial, to the various organs and parts of the body. There are many approaches to this end, and I believe that you will have a great time learning the ever-growing list of techniques, as well as the management of vascular diseases.
When you successfully complete the Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program, you will be eligible to take the qualifying and certifying examinations offered by the American Board of Surgery.
