body-imaging.jpgThe University of Mississippi Medical Center is the sole Level 1 trauma center for the state of Mississippi. Imaging facilities at the main campus consist of state-of-art CT scanners, including Siemens 128-slice multidetector CT scanner dedicated for the Emergency Room, a state-of the art Siemens dual-source 64-slice, a GE VCT 64-slice, a 3.0T Siemens Skyra MR unit, two 1.5T GE MR scanners, and state-of-the-art ultrasound units.

The Jackson Medical Mall is the location for UMMC's Cancer Institute, which includes outpatient cancer care center. The facility houses a 1.5 T GE MR scanner and a state-of-the-art GE VCT Discovery 690 PET/CT.

The Grants Ferry and the Pavilion locations are outpatient clinics which host a GE Light speed 16-slice scanner, GE VCT 64-slice and two 1.5T GE MR scanners dedicated for outpatient care.

The ultrasound division of body imaging offers world-class ultrasound imaging services with cutting-edge ultrasound equipment, including Doppler and soon sonoelastography. We provide ultrasound service for the UMMC hospitals as well as outpatient clinics, the Lexington hospital and Select Specialty Hospital. Our faculty also reads the ultrasounds studies from UMMC Grenada.

In the main hospital, there are static X-ray units, portable machines for inpatient imaging and two multiplanar units for inpatient and outpatient imaging. all of which are fully digital and integrated.

All studies are interpreted on Phillips PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), and post-processing is performed on GE AW workstations. State-of-the-art voice recognition (Nuance - Radwhere) is used for study dictation.
