Areas of Expertise
General: Cardiovascular physiology and pharmacology. Cancer pharmacology.
Specific: Signal transduction in ischemic heart and heart failure, cardiovascular complications of diabetes, and signaling targets in cancer prevention.

Research Methods
In vivo myocardial infarction of animal model by ligation of left anterior descending coronary artery; in vivo heart failure of animal model induced by transverse aortic constriction; ex vivo working heart perfusion system for measuring substrate metabolism with radiolabeling glucose and fatty acid; IonOptix system for measuring contractile functions and transit calcium signaling of isolated cradiomyocytes; in vitro cell culture to determine anti-cancer activity of natural products from herb medicine; and signal transduction is determined by molecular biology approaches.

Current Projects

- Sestrin2 signaling in age-related cardiovascular disease

- Metabolic regulation in ischemic heart and heart failure

- Glucose transport trafficking in the diabetic heart

- AMPK signaling pathway in heart disease and cancer biology
