  • General: Genomics
  • Specific: Genetics of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors, particularly in African ancestry populations

Research methods

The following list summarizes Dr. Wilson's principal research activities:

Infrastructure development; exploring plasma protein profiles that are associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) traits and risk factors; identifying genetic variants that are associated with concentration of specific plasma proteins; characterizing metabolite profiles that are associated with cardiometabolic traits and outcomes in African Americans; assessing the association between leukocyte telomere length and measures of subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD; coronary artery calcium, carotid intima-media thickness) and CVD events; conducting genetic association meta-analyses, using data from genotyping arrays as well as exome and whole genome sequence; exploring the ethical implications of APOL1 genetic testing in the community; using advanced systems analytic approaches to derive new knowledge from large proteomics, metabolomics, and related datasets; coordinating the work of national and international genetics consortia.
