Residency Application Information

Applications

We accept applications via ERAS and will participate in the NRMP. Register with the NRMP and apply to us through ERAS. The handout, Otolaryngology Residency Application Guide, prepared for our own students applying to otolaryngology, may be helpful as well. Our program takes three residents per year.

We will consider applications as they arrive so we encourage you to send them in as early as you are able. We send interview invitations out during the period in October and November, as recommended by the Otolaryngology Program Directors Organization and the Association of Academic Departments of Otolaryngology. For the 2017 interview period, the recommended dates to extend interview invitations is between November 8th and January 11th. Therefore, your application should arrive ahead of these dates to receive full consideration.

We are happy to talk to you by phone as needed, but the preferred method for routine communication will be by email. Therefore, keep us updated regarding your email address.

Residency programs at the University of Mississippi Medical Center require state licensure. Applicants for licensure in Mississippi must submit passing USMLE scores for Step 1 and Step 2 (both the CKA and CSA parts) to the licensure board. In order to be employed as a resident at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, an applicant without United States citizenship must have a permanent or a J-1 visa.

  • Although you are welcome to indicate in your personal statement why you are interested in our program, we do not require the submission of a separate paragraph indicating your interest.
  • We recognize the potential value of the Otolaryngology Resident Talent Assessment project, but we do not consider this information in selecting applicants for interviews or ranking of applicants.¬† Therefore, we do not require your participation in ORTA as a requisite for applying to our program.
