Better Hearing and Speech Month

Meet Victoria Kivlan, AuD

How long have you been employed at UMMC; what is your sub-specialty and why did you choose this area to focus on?
"I started at UMMC in January of 2016. I specialize in pediatric audiology concentrating on electrophysiological measures of hearing and implantable devices.

What is one thing you wish your patients knew about audiology?
"That a child is never "too young" for our services. I hear far too often comments such as "well they are too young for hearing aids" or "how could you possibly tell if a baby can hear, they can't raise their hand".

What is the one thing you wish your patients knew about the relationship of ENT health/early testing as it pertains to audiology?
"The importance of early detection of hearing loss and the direct relationship between speech and language development".

Where did you get you education/degree from?
"I received my Doctorate Degree in Audiology from Idaho State University. I received my Bachelor Degree in Psycology from the Mississippi University for Women".

Is there anything you would like for your patients to know about yourself?
"I love what I do!"
