Research interests

Dr. Tandon is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at UMMC. He contributes significantly to research, teaching and service. Dr. Tandon is recognized internationally for his research on herpesviruses. In 2016 and 2017, he organized and chaired the sessions on betaherpesviruses at International Herpesvirus Workshop (IHW) in Madison, WI and Ghent, Belgium, respectively. His research is supported by several extramural and intramural grants and he serves on AHA as well as NIH grant review study sections. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA). He directs the Graduate Virology Course at UMMC and team teaches three other Microbiology courses. He is also an active member of Admissions Executive Committee, the committee that decides on medical students’ final admissions to UMMC. Students supervised by Dr. Tandon at UMMC have received numerous awards including the American Heart Association pre-doctoral fellowship and Robert A. Mahaffey Memorial Award. A recent PhD student was the Marshall of the Graduate School at UMMC commencement in 2017. Dr. Tandon also holds a Joint Assistant Professor position in the Department of BioMolecular Sciences at University of Mississippi.
