HIV Medicine Course

To help meet the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS in Mississippi, UMMC's Department of Internal Medicine is committed to ensuring that the primary care internal medicine workforce finishes training with the skill set needed to independently manage chronic HIV infection.

Starting in academic year 2015-16, the Department of Internal Medicine has offered training in HIV medicine to categorical internal medicine and internal medicine/pediatrics residents. The curriculum consists of one half-day continuity clinic at the Jackson Medical Mall HIV Clinic staffed by infectious disease faculty, in addition to a comprehensive series of lectures and didactics throughout the year.

Residents are eligible to participate during their senior year of residency with priority given to those intending to practice in a primary care setting after completion of training.
