Master of Health Informatics and Information Management - Online

The mission of the Master of Health Informatics and Information Management (MHIIM) program is to educate outstanding professionals who can contribute to high quality health care through development, implementation, and refinement of health information systems.

The Master of Health Informatics and Information Management (MHIIM) degree program is an online program that will prepare students to develop information systems for quality patient care; facility reimbursement; medical research; health planning; and health care evaluation as required by the changing health care environment.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will have a thorough knowledge of health care data resources administration, health care data security oversight, strategic and operational information resource planning, clinical data analysis, clinical classification systems, medical vocabularies, enterprise-wide master patient index systems, clinical decision support systems, information systems development and implementation of systems such as electronic health records.

Two tracks in the MHIIM degree program allow students to emphasize either health informatics or health information management. The choice of track depends upon a student's career goals, rather than past education or experience. The Health Information Management (HIM) track emphasizes management and administration of health care data and information systems. Additional electives taken in the HIM track allow the student to pursue eligibility for the RHIA certification exam of the American Health Information Management Association. The Health Informatics (HI) track addresses design and development of information systems, with an emphasis on applied clinical informatics. Various certifications are available to graduates of the HI track, depending upon the graduate's previous work experience and career goals.
