REVIEW PERIOD: 3 years
POLICY NAME: Admission of Non-Degree Seeking Students
PURPOSE: To provide a definition of and procedure for admission of non-degree seeking students.
POLICY: Applicants who have not been accepted into a program of study at the University of Mississippi Medical Center may be allowed to register for course credit as a non-degree seeking student (NDSS) in one of the following categories:
• SHRP-Undergraduate NDSS
• SON-Undergraduate NDSS
• SHRP-Graduate NDSS
• SON-Graduate NDSS
• SGSHS-Graduate NDSS
• SOPH-Graduate NDSS
In the event that a NDSS should seek admission into a regularly offered degree program, subject to the approval of the dean in the school in which courses were taken and the dean of the regularly offered degree program, up to [9] hours of course credit accrued by an NDSS may be transferred toward a degree program.
The NDSS student admission is not appropriate if a student has been accepted into a program for a future term.
Institutional requirements for confirming state authorization and professional licensure must be met with NDSS just as other UMMC students, particularly when the NDSS is out of state and taking course(s) through distance education.
