    The University of Mississippi Medical Center recognizes the rights of patients, their families and staff to pastoral and spiritual services. Spirituality can be an important element in overall well-being and in dealing with illness or injury.

    UMMC chaplains are theologically and clinically trained ministers who are called and qualified to minister to all persons.

    What we do

    Chaplains can provide for patients, families, staff and UMMC students:

    • Pastoral/Spiritual care and counseling
    • Exploration of issues regarding meaning and purpose
    • Sacraments, religious rites and rituals
    • Prayer
    • Religious literature
    • End-of-life and grief care and support
    • Education regarding spirituality, religion and health
    • Education to staff regarding ethics and cultural and religious diversity

    The chapel and the Department of Pastoral Services office are located at room WC-103 in the upper lobby of University Hospital. 

    Chaplains are available from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Call the switchboard at (601) 984-1001 and ask the operator to contact the on-call chaplain. UMMC staff may refer to "On Call Scheduling" on the intranet. Staff may make non-emergent patient referrals through Epic.
