ver the course of fall 2016, the UMMC Institutional Climate Committee served as an internal stakeholder team to investigate and evaluate concerns about the climate at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Through team discussions and intense review of data responses to surveys or assessments administered at UMMC over recent years, meetings of the committee quickly evolved into strategic planning sessions; and the initial development of recommended actions to include in the first strategic diversity and inclusion action plan for adoption by the institution. In alignment with current strategic priorities, organizational values, and most importantly our mission, members of the committee developed these recommended actions as extended goals of the UMMC/2020 Strategic Plan. Further development of the plan derived from documented observations or trends, discussions with institutional leaders and students, conversations with various committees and groups, including acknowledging historical or past occurrences within the UMMC organizational culture. Further, the plan highlights the exemplary offerings, services, infrastructure and talents of our employees and students. Lastly, the plan also distinguishes champions responsible for transcending excellence and enhancing the institution's capacity in promoting and sustaining inclusive practices across the enterprise.The release of the UMMC Strategic Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan is slated for 2017. Goals and metrics of the plan will be regularly monitored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and progress toward each goal will be available to the UMMC community through public dashboards and annual reporting. Finally, the plan will accomplish diversity goals of the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees.
