Purple Heart parking spaces debut on Veterans Day

To honor its employees and students who are combat-wounded veterans, the University of Mississippi Medical Center will provide six designated Purple Heart parking spaces in Lot 3 on the UMMC campus beginning Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11.

“As an institution we recognize and honor the hundreds of employees and students that have served in our military,” said Dr. Jonathan Wilson, UMMC chief administrative officer. “It is our desire that the Purple Heart spaces will provide special recognition to those wounded defending our great country.

“Thank you to our veterans. We honor you for your courage and sacrifice.”

The spaces are available to any UMMC employee or student who can provide a DD Form 214 as documentation that identifies him or her as a recipient of the Purple Heart, America’s oldest military decoration. The documentation must be submitted by Monday, Nov. 25.

The parking spaces will be distributed on a first-come basis and parking placards will be provided to those eligible to use the spaces. Recipients will be notified by email from Facilities Services.
