For those facing cancer, the impact extends beyond physical symptoms. Sharon McAllister, who had spent years managing the demanding responsibilities of caregiving for both of her parents, now faces a personal health crisis.

A few years ago, when Dr. Harrison Hicks was a college student, a rare disease overtook him, numbing his body but not his heart. In fact, it strengthened within him feelings he will hold onto for the rest of his professional and personal life.

Medical science’s greatest advances are often the result of clinical trials meticulously organized on the front end by an often anonymous support staff. Those roles are often just as vital to successful patient outcomes as the names on printed publications.
