A new 106,000-square-foot home for UMMC’s School of Nursing will soon be under construction. The state-of-the-art facility will include the needed laboratory and classroom space to increase the school’s enrollment by 25 percent.

Dr. John C. “Jay” Garner won accolades on the baseball diamond years ago and was guided by life events to an accomplished career in sports science and academic administration. He’s on the mound now for the School of Health Related Professions as its fifth dean, eager to keep its diversity of programs a major selling point for students.

The donation will help with the recruitment, acknowledgement and retention of top researchers and will provide a consistent source of funding to support the faculty members' research.

As an executive assistant in the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Tommeka Mason uses multiple skill sets to organize calendars, network with staff across campus and lend a helping hand wherever needed. And in case you didn’t know, she’s the reigning Mrs. Mississippi Plus America.
