The Medical Center’s School of Dentistry is providing an experience for young scholars who may have never had the chance to speak with dental professionals and see first-hand what the job entails. S.M.I.L.E. U is giving kids in grades 5-8 that opportunity through hands-on, fun activities designed to spark an interest in oral health.

Any institution going on 70 has no shortage of milestones. On this date 60 years ago, one of this institution’s greatest moments was marred by one of the most tragic. But it laid the foundation for landmark achievements, a record of excellence in transplantation that is still being written.

International GI experts are studying gut samples from healthy pediatric patients to better understand how ancestry, geography and environment impact health and create disease-fighting interventions.

For close to 30 years, Strong has had the opportunity to tremendously help patients through her career as a skilled pharmacy technician. Nonetheless, she didn’t realize just how much her career choice, coupled with her flare for creativity, would impact the individuals she interacted with at the Cancer Center and Research Institute.

Medical Center faculty and staff often are recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for their academic or medical achievements. These accolades place UMMC among health science centers worldwide.
