Dr. Harendra Arora works collaboratively with departments across the Medical Center to ensure patients receive quality care, whether that’s before, during or after surgery. His anesthesiology team takes care of patients at their most vulnerable times, in every setting of the hospital.

Despite an initial decline in mortality in patients with both diabetes and cardiovascular disease, researchers say the trend has reversed in recent years, with Mississippians ranking No. 2 in the nation.

Dr. Amy Smith, who earned a BSN and MSN at UMMC, is the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs director of clinical operations for specialty care and recipient of the Nursing Alumna of the Year Award. Also Presly Lowry, nursing instructor, received the Early Career Achievement Award during the annual School of Nursing Alumni Awards luncheon.

As she nears graduation from the School of Dentistry, Casey Park is focusing on extending her learning through a residency, with the goal of getting more experience in treating medically complex patients.

Coming from a community college to the bachelor’s program in dental hygiene, Malita Chaffier had a few qualms and anxieties. But thanks to faculty who taught her the skills she needed for clinical training – and life lessons along the way – she’s prepared to begin full-time work as an oral health professional.
