Within hours of Saturday’s massive tornado strike in the Mississippi Delta, teams of students, physicians, nurses and others from the Medical Center were on the road to Rolling Fork. Many worked for hours without rest, providing medical aid and solace to those who lost everything.

Diagnosed with severe hearing loss as an infant, Joe Mack Jr., is now able to hear thanks to a surgical procedure received at the University of Mississippi Medical Center more than a decade ago. Now a graduate student, he shares his passion for science and education by teaching elementary students as a Project REACH volunteer.

Pediatric craniofacial patients can see multiple experts in one clinic visit, thanks to the Stephanie and Mitchell Morris Center for Cleft and Craniofacial Research and Innovation at Children’s of Mississippi. The team includes specialties such as plastic surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, oral-maxillofacial surgery, dentistry, audiology, speech therapy, genetics, psychology and social work.
