For this year’s Match Day ceremony, when graduating medical students announced where they “matched” for their specialty training, hundreds of people all but filled up Thalia Mara Hall. But, for several students, the place didn’t seem quite so full.

Runners in the inaugural 5K, 10K and half marathon benefiting Children’s of Mississippi ran routes through downtown Jackson and Fondren and past the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower at Children’s of Mississippi on the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus.

More women are patrolling the grounds of UMMC than ever before, thanks to a pledge from campus police a year ago to join a nationwide effort to bolster the recruitment of women in law enforcement.

Gastrointestinal problems can affect children’s growth, academics and activity levels. Children’s of Mississippi gastroenterologists are bringing care closer to home by treating patients at six outpatient specialty clinics around the state.

With a passion for radiology and research, and a medical degree under his belt, Dr. Elliot Varney enrolled in a new combined residency Ph.D. program. He graduates in May, and accolades are rolling in.
