Haylee and Shawn Ladner’s son and four identical quadruplet girls are growing stronger as neonatal intensive care patients at Children’s of Mississippi. The five babies were born by Caesarean section Feb. 16 at Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants at UMMC.

Sierra Garner’s world changed when she was 16. Diagnosed with a disease that made it hard for her heart to pump blood to her body, Garner’s heart function deteriorated. The Medical Center’s heart team in November 2022 implanted a device to take over some of the work of her heart, restoring quality of life and putting her on track to receive a transplant.

Two days filled with inspiration and excitement are coming later this week when Children’s of Mississippi patients and their families will share their stories to radio listeners during the 22nd annual Mississippi Miracles Radiothon March 2-3. Broadcasting is 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day inside the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower.

The Dr. Owen B. and Lynn M. Evans Chair of Pediatric Neurology was created to honor UMMC’s second chair of pediatrics and the dedication of the couple to children’s health. Dr. Colette Parker, chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurology, will be the first to hold the honor.

When a kidney dialysis patient must have their blood cleaned three times a week, for four hours a stretch, they become a familiar face at the Medical Center’s Outpatient Dialysis Services at the Jackson Medical Mall. One face familiar to them is that of certified dialysis technician Tequila Bell.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety, First Lady Elee Reeves, Miss Mississippi Emmie Perkins and Friends of Children’s Hospital brought Mardi Gras fun during two separate parades on Fat Tuesday Feb. 21. Mardi Gras beads and other treats brightened the day for inpatients and children stopping by the hospital’s specialty clinics.
