The Children’s Heart Center at Children’s of Mississippi is helping schools in Mississippi become heart-safe by providing training in hands-only CPR and using defibrillators. Project ADAM officials say the goal is to prepare administrators, faculty and staff members to provide emergency care should a student, parent, employee or visitor experience cardiac arrest.

Children’s of Mississippi inpatients and specialty clinic patients got their pick of stocking stuffers during Friends of Children’s Hospital’s Santa’s Workshop event Dec. 6. BankPlus Presents Light-A-Light, Friends’ oldest fundraiser, included HGTV stars Ben and Erin Napier and their daughter Helen flipping the switch to light the 25-foot Christmas tree in front of the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower. Performances by Ballet Mississippi dancers and visits with Santa Claus were also part of the fun.

For Rolling Fork CPA Neal Holcomb, the fight against breast cancer has been personal for more than 25 years. Donations to UMMC from the foundation he set up to honor his parents have reached $200,000 and are already funding cutting-edge research on the most promising new treatments.

After a two-year hiatus, the ceremony returned to celebrate researchers who have brought in the most extramural funding during their careers at UMMC.

The names of more than three dozen students enrolled in schools at the University of Mississippi Medical Center were read off last week in recognition of their academic prowess as the latest initiates of Phi Kappa Phi, one of the nation’s most prestigious honor societies.
