In 1972, the first graduating class of dental hygienists left the School of Health Related Professions with certificates in hand. A half-century later, these oral health practitioners earn their baccalaureate degrees at the School of Dentistry, learning alongside dental students who share their passion for patient-centered care.

From a dozen male faculty members to the benefits of its location on the state’s academic medical center, faculty and male alumni discuss why the School of Nursing is among the best in the country for men in nursing. Nationally, 13 percent of registered nurses are men, up from 7 percent in 2008.

A kick-off for the holiday season, BankPlus Presents Winter Wonderland included an Ace Hardware Tree Farm where hospital inpatients could choose mini Christmas trees to decorate in their hospital rooms.

Students going through clinical rotations at UMMC Grenada faced driving to and from Jackson every day because living in a hotel for four or five weeks was cost-prohibitive. But thanks to renovations to unused patient rooms and creation of both a student lounge and technology and learning room made possible by a federal grant award, rotating students can have comfortable and free quarters.

During the first quarter of the academic year, UMMC researchers were awarded nearly $30 million in sponsored programs funding from federal, state, external university, private foundation and industry sponsors.
