Though some institutions have seen declines in research funding in recent years, the Medical Center continues to win awards for groundbreaking studies, with more than $107 million last year.

Bishop is chief of the division started by Dr. Paul Parker in 1981. Under her leadership, the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology is thriving, Parker said. “The future has never been brighter for pediatric gastroenterology.”

A common virus, RSV can cause serious illnesses in young children. Last summer, Children’s of Mississippi saw a surge of RSV cases. A year later, and RSV cases are increasing again.

They’ve just dipped their toes into the School of Dentistry laboratories, but beginning students waste no time in learning how to manipulate warmed wax with a dental tool. It’s a lesson that will be repeated and built upon as they progress to their fourth year.

Wound care is treatment of wounds that won’t heal easily. It’s not a line of health care for everyone. But UMMC Holmes County’s Shannon Farmer embraces it, assisting staff and providers in assessing wounds and making recommendations.
