Lanier clinic, School of Nursing win 2021 Governor’s Awards

The Lanier Teen Wellness Clinic, operated by the School of Nursing at the University of Mississippi Medical Center since its 2015 opening, offers health care, wellness physicals, help for anxiety and depression and even washer and dryer for students and parents to use. School leaders say the clinic keeps students healthy and ready to learn.

Minimally invasive procedure repairs brain aneurysms at high risk of bursting

When Felicia Beasley had an MRI as part of her preparations for a kidney transplant, she got some unexpected test results: The scan showed not one, but two brain aneurysms. Her UMMC neurosurgeon repaired the biggest and most dangerous of the aneurysms through a procedure to guide a tiny basket-like device through a catheter and into an artery in her brain to keep the aneurysm from rupturing. Patients go home after an overnight stay.
