A new era in health care for Mississippi’s children will be celebrated with the cutting of a ribbon at the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower at Children’s of Mississippi. The event, which will be broadcast live on the Children’s of Mississippi Facebook page at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, is a milestone on the road to the seven-story children’s hospital expansion’s opening for care next month.

UMMC has received a $1 million grant to study trust and community engagement among groups disproportionately affected by COVID-19. The study plans to leverage academic and community organizations statewide to create effective health messaging and boost interest in clinical trials related to the current pandemic.

An Oct. 5 study in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that using antibiotics to treat appendicitis may be a good option for some patients, but the approach isn’t “one-size fits all.” UMMC was one of 25 clinical sites for the nationwide trial focused on patient-centered decision-making and outcomes.
