UMMC’s Center for Telehealth has quickly taken action to ensure patients get the care they need during a pandemic. Virtual visits through UMMC2You have skyrocketed, as have telehealth visits with Medical Center providers. The center has screened thousands of Mississippians for COVID-19 and has set up testing appointments. A new federal grant is helping to cover the costs and provide additional technology.

Since 2017, the Mississippi Board of Nursing’s Office of Nursing Workforce has disseminated more than $2.5 million in scholarship funds to nursing schools in the state. This year, the School of Nursing at UMMC has received the largest amount to date; as a result, 85 nursing students have been awarded scholarships.

Public health departments use contact tracing to map the spread of an infectious disease from person to person. CDC officials say this technique is part of the solution to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
