About 80 UMMC employees work in the Mississippi Center for Emergency Services' new facility. The move came just in time, allowing the Medical Center to provide much-needed communication and services to fight COVID-19 across the state.

Throughout most of her medical school years, Kandice Bailey believed desire and gumption would lift her over any obstacles she faced as she raced toward her goals – and they did. But when it came time to interview for a coveted residency spot, there was one thing she forgot to believe in: herself.

For some 15 years, the campus chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society has promoted “the tradition of the caring doctor” in ways that are both customary and creative. The parent organization has noticed, recently granting national recognition to the Jeanette Pullen Chapter at UMMC for its deeds and dedication.

The American Optometric Association honors a UMMC ophthalmology faculty member as its Young Optometrist of the Year, while three students in UMMC's School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences are selected for the Robert Smith, M.D. Graduate Scholars Program.
