Life at the University of Mississippi Medical Center changed dramatically once the COVID-19 pandemic reached the U.S., as this photo essay illustrates. While the academic corridor is stilled by the absence of students, the clinical areas are abuzz with preparations for the coronavirus onslaught, and UMMC leaders spend long hours each day in COVID-19 "war rooms," plotting the institution's next response to the virus' threat to Mississippi's health.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is offering solutions to improving screening and testing as the state’s COVID-19 outbreak worsens. The Medical Center is joining with partners to offer screening for symptoms via a new smartphone telehealth app and collection of testing samples at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds.

The growing COVID-19 outbreak may be causing fear and anxiety among some UMMC employees and students. Help is available, however, from Medical Center experts who offer coping mechanisms via an employee/student hotline.
