As part of the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences' annual Research Day last Thursday, trainees heard from 2019 Distinguished Alumna Dr. Barbara Alexander, UMMC professor of physiology and biophysics. During the event, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows also presented their research as part of poster and oral poster presentations.

Every day at the Medical Center, patients with pulmonary disease, asthma, sleep apnea and other respiratory maladies depend on medical professionals like Kimberly Carter and Trina Dobson for their care. In tribute to their vital work as respiratory therapists, UMMC recently recognized Carter and Dobson as the first recipients of the PHIL Award.

Ten years ago, UMMC recognized its first exceptional frontline caregiver with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Since then, 121 nurses have earned the coveted daisy pin to place on their name badges. Last Friday, UMMC broadened its participation in the national DAISY program by presenting the Medical Center’s first DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
